I was introduced to Chaos Theory during my doctoral studies, by Robert Hillestad, and I have continued to study the theory in my Fiber Analysis Series. I am interested in the concept of repetitive visual patterns and processes since most textile creation processes are repetitive or fractal in nature. Of particular interest to me is how microscopic changes can affect or interrupt these patterns. I have intentionally integrated Chaos Theory into the graduate course I teach, because I have found that the foundational concepts of the theory help explain the creative and design processes in relation to wearable and fiber art. I find it exciting to usetheoretical foundations from discipline s outside of the textiles and clothing as the basis for design work.
